Information you need to know
1. Motor Vehicle
Students are not permitted to own or drive a vehicle while attending Raphael House Rudolf Steiner School.
2. Alcohol and Drugs
- The legal age to consume alcohol is 18.
- Smoking or possession of cigarettes is not permitted at school or within the vicinity of school property.
- It is an offence to come to school under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol.
- It is an offence to possess or consume alcohol anywhere accept under the care of the host family..
- It is against the law to possess, use or trade illegal drugs
3. Health, Welfare and Accident Benefits
Most students are not entitled to publicly funded health services whilst in New Zealand - unless they are:-
A resident or citizen of Australia; or
A national of the United Kingdom in New Zealand; or
The holder of a temporary permit that is valid for two years or more.
If you do not belong to one of these special categories and you receive medical treatment during your visit you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Medical Insurance is therefore very important for international students (see 6.4 below). Full details of entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz
4. Income Support
You will not be eligible for income support assistance. A condition of your student visa is that you will be able to meet the full costs of education, accommodation and other living costs.
5. Accident Compensation
The Accident Compensation Corporation provided accident insurance cover for all New Zealand Citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz
