Upper School Athletics Day (Classes 8 – 12)

The Upper School Athletics Day is held annually, usually at the start of the year. It is an, action packed day where students test their athletic ability in both social and competitive events. Students are divided into different Houses and compete for points in order to be awarded the ‘Victory Lion’. 
 
Lower School Athletics Day (Classes 3 – 7 and Class 9)

The Lower School Athletics Day is also held annually but usually occurs at the end of the year. It is run by Class 9 students. Although there is an element of competition for classes 5 – 7, the main focus of the day is to encourage students to find joy in participating in physical activity.   

School Cross Country (Classes 5 – 12)

The School Cross Country occurs in term two. It is for students in classes 5 – 12 and is organised by Class 8. The course is usually between 3-5km in length and is held on the school site and on the neighbouring subdivision.

Class 9 Sports Exchange

In Class 9 students travel to Taikura Rudolf Steiner School in Hastings and partake in various social and competitive sporting events. This exchange is for three days and the class stays together in cabin style accommodation.

Class 10 Sports Exchange

In Class 10 students welcome students from Taikura Rudolf Steiner School to Wellington and partake in various social and competitive sporting events. This exchange is also for three days.

Class 5 Greek Olympic Camp

The study of Ancient Greece and the athletic disciplines of that time form a major focus of the Class Five Physical Education Curriculum. Towards the end of the year Class Five travel to Hastings and participate in an Olympic Camp. Here they test their athleticism against students from Steiner Schools throughout New Zealand.

Lunchtime Clubs


Organised lunchtime sports clubs are on offer throughout the year at Raphael House. The Upper and Lower School Gym Clubs are regular fixtures.  Other Clubs vary from term to term and have, featured Circus Skills, Benchball, Toe Soccer, Wrestling, High Jumping and more.

Extra Curricular Sports

At Raphael House we offer various Extra Curricular Sports in the Lower and Upper School:-

Lower School

We offer Touch,  Basketball, Hockey and Netball.

Upper School

We offer Netball, Basketball, Hockey and Cricket.


The School’s Sport’s Co-ordinator  organises acts as the liaison person between the Sporting Organisations, Coaches and Teams.
