GATEWAY IN THE UPPER SCHOOL
In 2010 we began running Gateway in the Upper School.
Gateway is a programme designed to provide career pathways and school to work transitioning for secondary school students in Classes 10, 11 and 12. A Gateway student will work one day a week on a work placement, in an area of employment they are interested in. They will also have Gateway lessons in their school timetable where they will work on assignments and projects related to their chosen field. The Gateway students complete Gateway in place of one of their other subjects, and are required to catch up any other work they miss while out on work placement.
Gateway is funded by the government, and schools can apply each year through the Tertiary Education Committee (TEC) for placements. in 2010 we have 3 placements, in 2011 we are hoping to have between 5 and 7 placements and we will continue to increase the number of placements each year as funding and teacher resourcing allows.
Students have been working in hospitality, sound engineering, and audio visual installation.
It's a popular programme which will provide much needed support, direction and inspiration for those involved.
We are currently drafting up the selection criteria, and will put all of this information on the website when completed.
