Board of Trustees
THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Boards of Trustees are Crown entities and are responsible for the governance of schools. The Board of Trustees at Raphael House comprises of nine appointed and elected trustees who are accountable to make sure that our school is run in the best interests of our students and community.
The board sets the vision, mission and protects the special character of the school. The board develops a strategic plan and monitors progress of the annual plan. It develops policies (the what) for management to implement (the how). The board monitors student learning outcomes, appoints & appraises the School Co-ordinator/Principal and acts as good employers. As an integrated school the board receives financial resources from the Ministry of Education and from locally raised funds (fundraising and donations) and the role of the board is to manage, monitor and review these resources to ensure the educational priorities are met.
Board Meetings
The Board meets regularly during the School year, once a month on a Monday evening in the Heide Werth Room at 7.00 pm. This meeting is advertised in the Bush Telegraph and is open to members of the School community. Each meeting is minuted and copies of the minutes and correspondence list and reports to the Board are filed in the Board Minutes file in the Office. Board minutes, policies, strategic plan, Integration Agreement and School Charter are available for reading by parents. This is one way parents can be informed about the School’s vision, current activities and issues.
The Board of Trustees comprises of 4 elected Parent Representatives, an elected Staff Representative, an elected Student Representative, 3 appointed Proprietors Representatives and the School Co-ordinator/Principal. Board of Trustee Elections were held in April 2010. There is currently a vacancy for a Proprietor’s Representative.
